A Lesson

Anoucheka Gangabissoon

Should there be a reason
To find that love, or duty,
Or values, or even rigor
Hold no meaning?

Or is it to be understood
That we all revolve
Around nothingness
And that what becomes
Our prime cause
Is in fact just a game of life?

We fall from those high rise boulders
Upon which we boast of ascending
We fall from the comfort
Unto which we grope on to,
Out of fear of cold winds
That can easily blow us down
Should we find ourselves alone

We become heartbroken
At the realization that love,
Or duty, or values, or even rigor
No longer holds any meaning for us!

The purpose of our journey remains veiled
We are allowed to witness only
Our paths and our companions
And we find that we are no different from
Those who just appear in this world
For reasons not known to anyone!

Love, duty, values, and even rigor,
Why, we shall lose them all
And even more than we shall ever imagine
For this world is a perfect teacher,
Having the expertise to make us understand
That here, nothing belongs to us!
